**Self-defense**

My girl got a new belt today.

And her (legendary) coach Skornik gave a significant speech in my opinion about the importance of self-defense in general and for girls, teenagers and women in particular.

In training, they learn to kick and attack, but most of all they need to know how to fall so as not to harm themselves.

And this led me to thoughts about my world.

*How much do we really learn how to fall?

*On the other hand, how much energy do we invest in trying to avoid falling instead of practicing falls, protecting ourselves from harm and practicing getting up right away?

Because that's the most important part in my opinion.

We all fall.

But today we don't really protect ourselves from attacks.

As we get older, we protect ourselves from discomfort.

We avoid confronting places that force us to overcome:

To overcome the fear of change, of failure, of looking bad, of making mistakes.

We are very wise in teaching our children that this is the most important thing, and that "in life you don't always win" and that "what matters is the journey, and learning from mistakes," but, after all, how much do we really live and model for them what we teach?

So today I looked at my daughter with concern accompanied by envy.

Soon she will start learning to stand up to fights, take blows, have to bite her lips and keep going.

I really hope she continues. I will do my best to keep her going.

Some will say that it is harsh and unnecessary.

To me, this is the most important lesson there is.

For me too.

And who knows, maybe soon I'll join in too.

It hurts just thinking about it.

And maybe that's part of the point.

With love,

Ofri❤️
